Curbing Destructive Behavior

If your dog is less than 2 years old, there's a chance that they will outgrow their destructive behavior. You may be able to introduce traditional toys down the road.

In the meantime, the important thing is satisfing their need to expend energy and curb boredom. Some suggestions:

1. Play fetch every day...let your dog run and retrieve. 2. Give your dog a chewing outlet with some all natural treats. Check with your vet regarding nutritional requirements and ask about lessening their kibble to give them a chew treat after each meal.

Flossies are terrific as are many of the items on this page: http://www.dogtoys.com/merricktreats1.html

With occasional real beef bone treats, make sure that you're home to watch your dog chew on these. http://www.dogtoys.com/merricktreats1.html

If you have a smaller breed dog, you may wish to take the treat away after 20-30 minutes and save it for another day.
